Connect a Twitter/X Account
Connect a Twitter/X Account
Purpose
Connecting a Twitter/X account lets you add social touchpoints — follows, unfollows, direct messages — to your campaign sequences. This article covers the connection process, the multiple verification flows Twitter may trigger, and how to use the account in campaigns.
How Twitter/X Works in SuperSend
Like LinkedIn, Twitter/X accounts are connected as standalone identities first, then attached to a sender profile. The sender profile is what gets assigned to campaigns. The flow is:
- Connect Twitter/X account (this article)
- Attach it to a sender profile (see Create and Use Sender Profiles)
- Use the sender profile in a campaign
A sender profile can hold one Twitter/X account and one LinkedIn account alongside multiple email mailboxes — creating one consistent outbound persona across all channels.
Prerequisites
- A Twitter/X account with valid credentials (username or email + password).
- If your account requires phone verification, have access to the phone number on the account.
Connect a Twitter/X Account
- In the left sidebar, click Senders.
- Click Add Sender (top right).
- In the drawer, click Twitter / X Account.
- Fill in the details:
- Username or Email — your Twitter/X username (with or without the @) or the email address linked to the account.
- Password — your Twitter/X password.
- Country — select the country that matches your normal login location. SuperSend uses this to route through a matching proxy, which helps avoid Twitter flagging the login as a suspicious location. Wait a moment for the list to load.
- State / Region — appears after selecting certain countries. Choose the region matching your normal location.
- Click Connect.
A multi-step processing animation appears: "Connecting to X" → "Authenticating" → "Verifying account." This typically takes a few seconds.
What Happens After You Click Connect
Twitter/X's verification requirements vary by account. Here's each possible flow:
Immediate Success
Twitter accepts the login without extra verification. The drawer closes and a toast confirms: "X account connected successfully!" The account now appears in Senders → Social tab.
Identity Verification Required (Email or Phone)
Twitter asks you to confirm your identity with an email address or phone number on the account.
- SuperSend shows a Verify Your Identity screen.
- Enter the email address or phone number associated with your Twitter account.
- Click Continue.
Twitter uses this to confirm it's really you, not to send a code. If Twitter then needs a code, you'll advance to the verification code step below.
Phone Verification Required
Twitter requires a phone number specifically:
- SuperSend shows a Phone Verification screen.
- Enter your phone number, including country code (e.g., +1 for US).
- Click Verify Phone.
Verification Code (OTP)
Twitter sends a code via email or SMS:
- SuperSend shows an Enter Verification Code screen.
- Check your email or SMS for the code.
- Enter the code in the field.
- Click Verify.
If you didn't receive the code, click Resend Code. The button will briefly show "Resending…" and you'll get a "Verification code resent" toast when the resend is triggered.
After Connecting
The Twitter/X account appears in the Social tab of the Senders page with its username and proxy location.
To use it in campaigns:
- Go to Senders → Sender Profiles tab.
- Open a sender profile (or create one).
- In profile settings → Social Connections tab → X (Twitter) section, select the account and click Connect.
See Create and Use Sender Profiles for the full setup.
Daily Limits for Twitter/X
Twitter/X is more sensitive to automation than email or LinkedIn. SuperSend enforces a configurable daily event cap per campaign. By default it's set to 25 events per day (follows, unfollows, DMs combined). The maximum is 500, but SuperSend warns that values above 80 are high risk.
You configure this in campaign Settings → Sending Rules → X Sender section → Max X Events Per Day.
Keep this conservative, especially for newer accounts. Accounts that send high volumes early are more likely to get flagged or restricted by Twitter.
Re-Authenticating an Expired Account
Twitter/X sessions can expire. When they do, the account in a sender profile shows a red card with a reconnect prompt.
To re-authenticate:
- Go to Senders → Sender Profiles → open the affected profile.
- Click the settings icon → Social Connections tab.
- Click Reconnect on the expired X card.
- Follow the same connection wizard steps.
Expected Result
The Twitter/X account appears in Senders → Social tab with an active status, ready to attach to a sender profile.
Troubleshooting
- Issue: Connection fails immediately after entering credentials.
Fix: Confirm your username/email and password are correct by logging in directly on twitter.com. Twitter may also temporarily restrict accounts for suspicious activity.
- Issue: You receive a verification code request but can't access the phone number.
Fix: Log into Twitter directly and update your security settings to use an email code instead, then retry the connection.
- Issue: Account connected successfully but doesn't appear in the profile's Social Connections tab.
Fix: Check if it's already attached to another sender profile. A Twitter/X account can only be in one profile at a time.
