Clone or Copy a Campaign

Clone or Copy a Campaign

Purpose

Cloning a campaign creates a new copy of an existing campaign with its sequence steps and settings preserved. It's the fastest way to reuse a proven sequence for a new audience without rebuilding everything from scratch.

When to Clone

Clone a campaign when:

  • You want to reuse a sequence for a different contact list or segment.
  • You want to run the same campaign across multiple teams or time periods.
  • You're testing a variation of a working sequence (clone, then change one element).

Cloning copies the sequence and settings. It does not copy contacts.

How to Clone a Campaign

  1. Go to Campaigns from the left sidebar.
  2. Find the campaign you want to clone.
  3. Click the menu on the campaign row (or in the campaign header once you've opened it).
  4. Select Clone (or Duplicate).
  5. A new campaign is created immediately with the name "Copy of [original name]."
  6. Open the new campaign and rename it to something meaningful.

What Is and Isn't Copied

Is copied:

  • Sequence steps — all email content, LinkedIn steps, Twitter steps, wait delays, A/B variants
  • Schedule settings — timezone, days, sending hours
  • Sending rules — opt-out settings, skip rules, BCC, list health level, ESP routing rules
  • Opt-out settings
  • Campaign blacklist items

Is not copied:

  • Contacts — the new campaign starts empty
  • Sender profile assignments — you need to assign a sender profile to the new campaign
  • Events/analytics — the clone starts with a clean slate
  • Active campaign status — cloned campaigns start as draft

After Cloning

After creating the clone, do the following before launching:

  1. Rename it — "Copy of Campaign Name" is not useful at scale.
  2. Assign a sender profile — go to Settings → Senders tab → add your sender profile(s). The clone doesn't inherit sender assignments.
  3. Upload contacts — add the new audience to the clone via CSV upload.
  4. Review the sequence — check that any contact variables used in the sequence ({{company_name}}, {{first_name}}, etc.) match what's available in your new contact list.
  5. Check the schedule — confirm timezone and sending hours are appropriate for this campaign's audience.
  6. Activate — turn the campaign on when you're ready to send.

Expected Result

A duplicate campaign exists with a copy of the original sequence and settings. It's configured with the new sender profile and contacts and ready to launch independently.

Troubleshooting

  • Issue: Cloned campaign created but no sends are going out.

Fix: Sender profiles are not copied — assign one in Settings → Senders tab. Also upload contacts if none were added yet.

  • Issue: Variable placeholders aren't resolving correctly in the cloned sequence.

Fix: The original campaign may have used custom variables that aren't in your new contact upload. Check the sequence for variables like {{custom_field}} and confirm those fields exist in your new contact list.
