We can no longer provide individual campaign advice for why a particular campaign has a low open rate. There are hundreds of reasons outside of our control. Here are the most common:

  • They have a system like https://www.barracuda.com/ that blocks tracking pixels

  • Your emails landed in spam

  • The user has a setting preventing images loading by default

  • The email provider chooses not to load the image

  • The company has an organization level setting not to load small images which are commonly used as tracking pixels.

  • Apple devices may not load tracking pixels

Because of this, it is possible your click through rates are higher than your open rates, or you may have very low open rates.

We will continue adding to this list as we discover new reasons. We are also actively working to combat these reasons as the industry evolves. Companies like Apple and Google are actively trying to minimize this kind of tracking.

Spam

Emails landing in spam are a common reason for not having images load and thus have low open rates since images don't load in the spam folder. Make sure you have email warming on, and consider using a new domain to test with the same messaging to make sure the emails are not landing in spam.

Different Industries

Different industries can also have different open rates. Many schools for example use Barracuda Networks with strict settings sometimes preventing you from even sending an email to certain people. Often images do not load as well until they are scanned, and if they are scanned and deemed to be a likely tracking pixel, they also may not load.

Tracking Domain

If you have a custom tracking domain (which you should), you can visit the url of the tracking domain and make sure that it loads in your browser.

This is what success should look like. If you see something else, your tracking domain is not set up correctly and could be the cause of low open rates.
