Opt Out and Unsubscribe Settings

Opt Out and Unsubscribe Settings

Who this is for

Campaign operators who want to understand how SuperSend handles opt-outs, when an unsubscribe link is included in emails, and how to configure the related automation rules.

No. The opt-out link is off by default on all new campaigns.

SuperSend is built for outbound email — cold outreach where you control the contact list. Opt-out links are not automatically inserted into your emails. You choose whether to include one on a per-campaign basis.

Where to configure opt-out settings

  1. Open the campaign.
  2. Click Settings in the campaign navigation.
  3. Select Opt Outs from the settings sidebar.

You'll find five controls here.

Opt Out settings explained

Default: Off

When enabled, SuperSend appends a small opt-out link to the bottom of every email in the campaign. The link text is controlled by the Opt Out Message field.

When a contact clicks the link:

  • The contact's status in the campaign is updated to Opted Out.
  • The contact stops receiving future emails in the sequence.
  • If Opt Out → Blacklist is enabled, the contact is also added to your team blacklist.

Opt Out Message

Customizes the text of the opt-out link. Defaults to opt out. You can change this to match your brand voice — for example:

  • Opt Out
  • Click here to opt out
  • Unsubscribe
  • Remove me from this list

This field only affects the link label; it has no effect if Include Opt Out Link is off.

Opt Out → Blacklist

Default: Off

When enabled, any contact who clicks the opt-out link is automatically added to your team blacklist. This prevents them from being re-added to future campaigns — even if they appear in a new CSV upload.

Recommended for most outbound campaigns if you want to honor opt-outs across your entire workspace, not just the current campaign.

Bounced Email → Blacklist

Default: Off

When enabled, any contact whose email hard-bounces is automatically added to your team blacklist. This prevents sending to known-dead email addresses in future campaigns.

Useful for protecting sender reputation without manually managing your blacklist after each campaign.

Reply Received → Blacklist Domain

Default: Off

When enabled, any contact who replies causes their entire company domain to be added to your team blacklist — so all future outreach to that company stops automatically.

This applies only to business email domains. Consumer domains (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Outlook, and similar) are never blacklisted by this rule, even if the reply comes from a personal address.

Use this when you want "one reply per company" behavior — once someone at a company responds, you stop contacting anyone else at that company.

List-Unsubscribe Header

Default: Off

Found in the same Opt Outs settings section.

The List-Unsubscribe header is an email protocol feature — not a visible link in your email. When enabled, SuperSend adds a machine-readable List-Unsubscribe header to every outgoing email. Email clients that support it (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail) may display a native "Unsubscribe" button in the email UI, separate from your message body.

This is a compliance and deliverability feature. Google and Yahoo's 2024 bulk sender requirements recommend or require List-Unsubscribe headers for high-volume senders.

Enabling this does not automatically add a visible opt-out link to your email body — that is controlled by Include Opt Out Link above. Both can be enabled independently.

Troubleshooting

Issue: A contact is still receiving emails after clicking opt out.

Likely cause: The opt-out link may not have been included in the campaign (it is off by default), or the contact clicked a link in a different campaign.

Fix: Verify Include Opt Out Link is enabled in the campaign's Opt Out settings. Check whether the contact's status shows Opted Out in the campaign Contacts tab.

Issue: A contact opted out but I can still add them to a new campaign.

Likely cause: Opt Out → Blacklist is not enabled. Opt-out status is campaign-scoped by default. Without blacklisting, nothing prevents re-upload to a new campaign.

Fix: Enable Opt Out → Blacklist in the Opt Out settings to add opted-out contacts to your team blacklist automatically.

Issue: I want to honor opt-outs across all campaigns, not just the current one.

Fix: Enable Opt Out → Blacklist. Contacts on the team blacklist are suppressed from all future campaigns automatically.
